Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created by British author Arthur Conan Doyle. Upon his first appearance in 1887, his popularity and fame became immediately widespread and many believed that he was not a fictional character but a real individual. He is well known for his unique detective skills, as he managed to successfully solve numerous cases for many clients, including Scotland Yard. He is often depicted wearing a tweed suit, a cloth cap and smoking his pipe. Though not the first fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes is arguably the best known with over 25,000 stage adaptations, films and publications. Guinness World Records lists him as the most portrayed human literary character in film and television history.
