King's guard
THE ROYAL GUARD

The King's Guard (called the Queen's Guard when the reigning monarch is female) is an infantry soldiers’ unit, charged with guarding the official royal residences in the United Kingdom. The guard is made up of a group of soldiers from a single regiment, which is split into two different sub-groups, providing one detachment for Buckingham Palace and another detachment for St James's Palace. Since the 20th century, several other British Army units from Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, and military units from other Commonwealth countries have been invited to form the King's Guard. In most cases, a King’s Guard consists of Foot Guards wearing the iconic red tunics and bearskins (hats).
