Laika
THE SPACE DOG (1954 - 1957)

Laika was a black & white homeless mongrel, wandering the streets of Moscow before she was selected by the Russian space program, to become the first animal to orbit the planet. Local scientists used street strays, under the assumption that such animals had already learned to endure conditions of extreme cold and hunger. The “experiment”, aimed to prove that a living organism could survive being launched into orbit, and continue to function under conditions of weakened gravity and increased radiation. On November 3rd 1957, Laika flew aboard the Sputnik 2 spacecraft. As the technology to de-orbit had not yet been developed, her survival was never expected. What Laika was subjected to was cruel and wrong. In her memory, Choco Myths created this special “Laika” edition with lots of love & affection.
